The science

WHAT DO WE MEASURE, AND WHY?

Resting metabolic rate

Your daily energy expenditure at rest, measured directly, not estimated with a generic calculator based on height, weight and age. You also get resting heart rate and heart rate variability as extra health markers, and a concrete basis for setting realistic goals for weight, energy intake and training.

VO2 max

Maximal oxygen uptake describes how much oxygen your body can take up and use per minute, and is the best single measure of fitness. The test gives you your exact fitness number, a solid basis for defining your physical form. The test also measures your maximum heart rate. Your VO2 max is the single most important marker for physical health, strongly linked to life expectancy and disease risk.

Training zones

Individual training zones based on your personal test results. The zones are set based on your maximum heart rate, ventilation and lactate values. Accurate zones mean more targeted training.

Lactate profile

By measuring lactate concentration in the blood and heart rate under gradually increasing load, we find your exact threshold values. The profile shows where your limits are, and how long you can hold an intensity over time. The thresholds tell us what fuel you use at different intensities and how you can train more purposefully.

Practical information

HOW IT WORKS

Booking and pricing

Prices include the test itself, a short review of the results and a report explaining the different variables. A follow-up test within 6 months gets a discounted price. All prices include VAT. Larger groups, sports teams, companies or groups of friends, are welcome to get in touch for a combined quote.

Location

Testing can be carried out at any of the Fitness Point gyms in Malvik municipality (Sveberg, Hommelvik or Vikhammer), as well as at Sprek Treningssenter Levanger. The equipment is portable, so testing can also be done at other locations on request. Get in touch and we will find a place and a time.

Preparation

For reliable and comparable results, preparation and execution should be the same from test to retest. Test in weeks with low or standardised load, with similar training volume, sleep and workload in the days before. Test and retest should be done at the same time of day, with the same clothing, warm-up and protocol.

Equipment

VO2 is measured with a VO2 Master Analyzer, lactate with LactatePlus and heart rate with a Polar H10. Tests are usually done on a treadmill or a cycle ergometer, but can also be done outdoors. The equipment is calibrated and maintained regularly.

Privacy

Everyone tested signs a consent form on arrival; if you are under 16, a guardian must sign. Before testing you must disclose your health status (heart conditions, diabetes, asthma or other conditions). We treat name, age, gender, date of birth, contact details, weight and test results confidentially, and share nothing without consent.

Payment

You receive an invoice by email a few days after the test has been completed.

Questions we often get

SIMPLE QUESTIONS ARE WELCOME

Unsure about something before you book? Here are the answers we give most often.

I barely train today. Is this for me?

Yes. Most people we follow up start somewhere between little and nothing. Our services suit everyone, regardless of training history.

Do I need to be fit to be tested?

No. The tests are adapted to your level, and are highly valuable and relevant even if you are starting from scratch.

Do I have to take a test to get started?

No. Testing is a tool, not a requirement. Many start with a conversation and a plan, and test later to see the progress.

What kind of follow up do I get?

We offer close follow up in the form of tailored training programmes, consultations during training periods, and sparring on nutrition and habits.

How should I prepare before a test?

Avoid hard training on the same day, eat a light meal a couple of hours before, and bring training clothes and running shoes.

What do I get after a test?

After a completed test you get a written report with your unique test results. We go through the report together with you and you get concrete recommendations for the way forward.

How often should I test?

Two to three times a year can give a good overview of your progress.

Where does it take place?

Testing is carried out at Fitness Point Malvik or Sprek Treningssenter Levanger. Tests can also be carried out at other locations if you prefer.
